The all-new 2018 Toyota Camry stole the show in Detroit

Published on January 31 2017

There were several new models unveiled at this year’s North American International Auto Show in Detroit, but very little, if any, attracted as much attention as the new 2018 Toyota Camry. The all-new generation of Toyota's popular mid-size sedan has been completely redesigned and now displays a much more aggressive style, sharper handling and more powerful engines. That said, the 2018 Camry has not lost any of the personality that made the success of its previous generations.

A new, sportier 2018 Toyota Camry

Built on the new Toyota New Global Architecture, or TNGA, the 2018 Toyota Camry benefits from a new chassis, new suspension and a lower center of gravity. All this translates into a sharper and sportier dynamics. Toyota engineers also lowered the driving position behind the steering wheel to give the driver a greater sense of control.

In terms of dimensions, the new Camry is lower, but also wider, which further improves stability.

All versions of the 2018 Toyota Camry have a new, more dynamic design, but we just have to look at the SE and XSE models to confirm that the Camry’s latest generation will be much more fun to drive. Indeed, the sportiest versions of the Camry get larger rims, a rear lip spoiler, a rear diffuser, new bumpers and much more. Two-tone paint is also available.

Safety and fuel economy are still important in the 2018 Toyota Camry

Despite its sportier personality, the 2018 Toyota Camry remains a car that stands out in terms of safety and also fuel economy, both of which are very important to consumers of the brand.

In terms of safety, the 2018 Toyota Camry comes standard with an impressive list of driver assistance technologies that are often available as options on other models in the same category. Equipped with the Toyota Safety Sense P suite of active safety technologies, the new Camry is equipped with Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/PD), Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist (LDA w/SA); and Automatic High Beams (AHB). Select models will also come with standard Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) with Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA).

Under the hood, the 2018 Toyota Camry will be powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine dubbed Dynamic Force Engine. This engine displays the best thermal efficiency of its segment and was designed to improve fuel economy while increasing power considerably. A 3.5-liter V6 engine will also be offered, as will a new hybrid engine. An eight-speed automatic transmission or a continuously variable automatic transmission is available depending on the model.
