2017 Toyota RAV4 - Safer than ever

Published on October 25 2016

Three years ago, Toyota gave us the Toyota RAV4 fifth generation. With it came a newer, bolder, more aggressive look to help this compact SUV stand out from a crowded segment. Then, last year, it was time for an update. Following the new design guidelines of the other models such as the Corolla and the Camry, the 2016 Toyota RAV4 received a refreshed look. This year, the changes are happening under the sheet metal, and they will make you safer than ever.

By looking at it, you wouldn’t believe that the Toyota RAV4 has been around for over 20 years. Its sharp new modern lines don’t give up the model’s age, despite it being one of the oldest nameplates in the compact SUV category. Last year, the maker introduced a fresh-faced designed to match the rest of the upgraded family. It now sports a modernized style with the three-level front grille design, the top one stretching into the inverted triangular headlamps, new wheels and a dynamic tail design.

Already going strong thanks to an upgraded look, the upgrades on the 2017 RAV4 are invisible to the naked eye. In fact, this family and safety-oriented vehicle just got a whole lot safer. In fact, Toyota has now made standard a flight of safety features and technologies. The higher trim levels of the RAV4 are already offered with blind spot monitor, rear cross traffic alert, front and rear parking assist sonars, as well as the Toyota Safety Sense package that includes pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with lane keeping assist, as well as the radar adaptive cruise control. However, from now on, features such as pre-collision braking, lane departure warning and adaptive cruise control will now be standard throughout the lineup.

The 2017 Toyota RAV4 is also offered with a choice of two powertrains. The standard 2.5L, four-cylinder engine produces 176 hp and 172 lb-ft of torque and is teamed with a six-speed automatic transmission. The second option is the hybrid powertrain, a 2.5L, four-cylinder Atkinson cycle engine, producing 194 hp and 154 lb-ft of torque,  teamed with the Hybrid Sinergy Drive system and a CVT. The RAV4 Hybrid fuel economy is rated at 6.9L/100km in the city. The standard gasoline engine is offered both in a front-wheel drive or an all-wheel drive layout, whereas the hybrid is only available with the AWD.

Watch for the arrival of the safest Toyota compact SUV yet in our showroom at Mendes Toyota, the updated 2017 RAV4.
